Toon Shading in Maya

How to setup toon shading (cartoon look) to your 3d Model in Maya?

STEP:1 Open the file

  • Download (2MB) and extract the file (Note: You need to have Win-rar installed in your computer

  • Now go to the extracted folder click and open the file 'Toon Shading Town.mb' inside the scenes folder

  • Root_folder\Toon Shading Town\Toon Shading Town\scenes\Toon Shading Town.mb

STEP:2 Apply the missing texture

  • Press F6 on your keyboard if the roof of the building appeared white apply the folowing steps:

  • Select the roof of the first building

  • Now Right click on the selected roof and choose 'Face' mode

  • Now Right click on the selected roof and choose 'Face' mode

  • In 'Face' mode select any face on the roof and then right click and select 'Material Attribute'

STEP:3

  • On the right side under the Attribute Editor select the tab 'roof1'

  • Now click on the icon next to the color

STEP:4

  • Under the 'File attribute' click the folder icon next to the 'Image Name'

STEP:5

  • Now in the Open tab go to the 'Toon Shading Town' folder where you extracted the file

  • Go to the 'sourceimages' folder select roof1.jpg and click open

Repeat the same steps for the second building

STEP:6

  • Click the Render setting icon

STEP:7

  • In the Render Setting window

  • Select 'Maya Software' next to Render Using

STEP:8

  • Now drag and select all the objects

STEP:9

  • In the 'Menu Set' click the dropdown menu and select 'Rendering'

STEP:10

  • On the Menu bar Click Toon Assign Outline Add New Outline

STEP:11

  • On the Right side Under 'Common Toon Attribute' you can play with the setting like set the Line Width etc

  • And finally rou can Render your scene
